Motivation

Last week didn't go as well as I'd hoped!  The lack of protein available where I was working and an inability to get to some and the long days really hampered me.  I must admit that I did expect to loose more this week and I was quite down hearted and thought about doing another diet.  Then I re read some of the book and blow me it said that when you add the vegetables back in to the diet quite often the weight will stay the same or even go up!  I had anticipated doing the 1/1 rota but that just didn't work last week so I'm going to give the 5 days on the protein a go just to kick start it again.  I do feel better now and resolve to continue.

Something will have to give and I need to be a bit more creative on the dishes.  Something I'm going to try is lining a quiche tin with some lean corned beef, baking it blind and then filling it with chicken, lean ham and herbs and onions, then whipping up some eggs and plain yogurt and pouring it over.  Hopefully it will come out looking like quiche.

The other thing that also might have made the difference is that I didn't eat alot last week and when I watched "the biggest loser" the other night one team hadn't been eating and didn't loose as much as the other teams.  The specialists explained that it's the bodies defence mechanism and if we don't put enough fuel inside it will hold on to the fat reserves as it thinks it's going into a period of hardship!

The Table of Temptation!

Well it's all sitting there looking at me, a side table groaning under the weight of goodies!  Thank God I'm strong willed!!

I've finished reading the book today and the final part is all about the importance of exercise.  Dukan prescribes exercise as he would prescribe pills.  He says that when he advised his patients to exercise they had a laisez faire attitude to it so he decided to prescribe it.  Well today I've done 2 hours of roller derby practice and boy oh boy did I sweat.  I did notice though that I did feel a bit light headed and I wonder if it was because I'm on a protein day today.

This week could be challenging as I am doing a full weeks temp work.  Obviously when you are at home it's easier to cook etc.  The company I'm going to working for supplies lunch but only vegetarian food.  Lets see how I get on!

Thanks also to Shem and Chris for officially following my efforts!!  It helps when the will power is weakened!

Second Christmas

Went out to eat at my lovely friend Annie's house yesterday evening.  She had been very supportive and it was very easy to be good and not deviate from my diet.  I did have a glass of cava but that was all!  A much cheaper night than normal!!

Today is Christmas with my Inlaws, this is proving more difficult!  Seeing as I am mean't to be on a pure protein day.  Well I'm going to do 2 days on veg and I'll do two days on the pure protein.  Not only that but our Christmas pressie was a huge hamper full of chocolate, chocolate, more chocolate, shortbread, biscuits, nuts, olives, twiglets and a bottle of bucks fizz!  (The best present as it has a black sequinned cover on it)!

I'm under a great deal of pressure to just eat but I am very focused and I'm not going to.  I have likened it to someone trying to give up smoking and then buying them shit loads of fags!!!

I feel quite good today as I have had two friends say how fab I'm looking,so thats good.! ;-)

The Cruise Phase!

Yeah, I'm now on the Cruise phase this means I can add non starchy vegetables and I'm really wanting them, nay craving them!  I've even had celery for breakfast!!

The good news is that I tried a skirt on this morning that was a true 16 on over my jeans (that feel alot better) and it did up even over the jeans! Last week when I tried it on it was not doing up by about 2 inches!!! All that and in just 4 days!!!!

So in this phase you work towards your goal weight and can choose either a 5/5 or 1/1 ratio which means 5 days of protein and vegetables followed by 5 pure protein days or one day of veg and protein followed by one of pure protein which to me seems much more doable over the long term!

Weigh In!

Oh well I managed to overcome the 22 year issue and weighed myself this afternoon on the Doctor's scales - 94.8 kilos or a massive 14 stone 13 pounds!  I'm glad I did it as after reading the book you need to be on the consolidation stage for 5 days for every pound you've lost.  This is important because after loosing the weight the body is ready to replenish the stocks that it has lost during the weight loss part of the diet and you could be susceptible to gain weight again if you don't follow the plan for this time.

I've also been on line to www.DukanDiet.co.uk where there is a free calculator to see what your realistic weight loss goal should be.  Mine is 67.2 kilos or 10 stone 8.2 pounds!  What a slim Jim I'll be!

It also tells me that I need to do the attack phase for 5 days, the cruise phase for 193 days by which time I should have attained my goal weight (30th July 2011) then the consolidation stage for 276 days which means I should have stabilised by 1st May 2012 which seems a very long way away!!

The Attack Phase!

I like the sound of this it sounds as if it might do something but at the same time it indicates that some effort is required!

My book has arrived and the attack phase lasts between 5 and 10 days depending on how much weight you have to loose.  I'm going for the 5 days as I think its a more practicable time and I want to loose....... well this is my problem, I haven't weighed myself since my weight got all out of hand when I was about 15 to 18 where I starved myself and was sick and exercised stupidly to maintain the weight I wanted.  I realise now with a totally daunting horror that I am going to have to weigh myself as I need to know how much weight I've lost and to give you guys the info!

Well I can do it!  I might even be surprised and be less than I think I am (some hope)!  Anyway since I was 18 some 22 years ago I've always measured myself with my clothes sizes.  I want to get back to a size 12 and even though I'm a 16 (or so my jeans say now)I would say that I'm pushing an 18!

I started the Attack phase on Monday and had a gallette with low fat creme fraiche and smoked salmon for breakfast which was surprisingly tasty.  Lunch was more difficult as I had promised to meet a girlfriend so I packed up some crab sticks (they don't smell and are easy to transport) in my hand bag and surreptitiously nibbled on them when no-one was looking!  A lovely non fat vanilla yogurt at 4pm and then king prawns, and a chicken breast with low fat creme fraiche mixed with curry powder and formed minced beef balls. very yummy!  All this was washed down with copious amounts of fizzy water which is really important as any diet produces alot of toxins than have to be expelled.  If you don't clear out your wastes your diet won't work as effectively.  Pierre Dukan likens it to a fire that smothers itself if the ashes are not cleared away.

Today I had the same breakfast as it was very good and set me up for the day, tuna and crab fish for lunch with 2 non fat yogurts and some low fat cottage cheese. Not sure what the chicken dish will be tonight I might look in the book for some inspiration!!

Shopping

I have put on loads of weight after having my second son Alistair and it's my 40th birthday in March and I have a holiday booked in June!

I needed to find something to shift the weight, quickly, that wouldn't make me hungry and that I could do for the long term.  My research has led me to the Dukan Diet.

I've ordered the book that hasn't arrived yet and read a few websites and today I've been shopping so I have all the goodies in the cupboard for Monday - my start date!!!
