Hooray! Today I tried on the jeans and they fitted! They fit well and look great! The Atkins is working I wish I'd started on that at the beginning but never mind. I also saw my mother today and she was amazed at the loss!
Well there's 33 days left until my 40th Birthday so lets see whether I can drop another dress size before then!
Nessi's Dukan Diet but now Nessi's Atkins Diet!
I started on the Dukan Diet or "The French Diet" as it is also know at the beginning of January. I really hoped that this would be the diet answer for me but, unfortunately I have found it very difficult to follow and very unpractical! I have now decided to carry on doing the Atkins diet. Having been on this Diet several years ago and finding it very good - I lost my baby weight and felt brilliant - I'm now embarking on it again in the hope it will do the same as last time!!!!

Not Your Daughters Jeans
I must say I'm quite a happy bunny today! I was given a pair of NYD jeans by my boss as they were too big for her. I tried them on and was disgusted that I couldn't even get them over my knees! They got put in the ebay box and I was gutted, lovely £100 jeans that didn't fit :(
Well today I thought I'd give them a try again because my husband actually said that he thought my diet was working as he had noticed that my bum looked smaller! Believe you me if he noticed then I must have lost!!!! Guess what? Not only did they go over my knees, but they went over my hips, bottom, the button did up and so did the zip!!!!! I must admit that I wouldn't be able to wear them yet but I'm well chuffed:)
I am really enjoying the diet now and have discovered a few great recipes that make life so very much easier.
The Atkins galette works brilliantly and spread with butter and marmite fills a real need for marmite toast! The other thing I tried for the 1st time this morning was a MIM (muffin in a minute) it looked a bit strange but tasted delicious!
30 grams of Flax meal (linseed)
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp splenda
1tsp cinnamon
1tsp butter
1 large egg
Put all the dry ingredients in a mug then add the egg and butter, give it a mix to combine, then pop it in the microwave for a minute.
Low and behold 1 minute later your muffin pops out with no problems! I sliced mine up and had butter on it. Fantastic!
I have heard that some people make a savoury version of this leaving out the Splenda and adding herbs and garlic instead. This savoury version can be used as a pizza base. Also they cook it in a rectangular microwavable tray and then toast it!
I also bought some Ketostix urine analysis strips this week just to make sure I was burning fat and they went the most purple ever. They really are good to give you some visual marker that things are working the way they should!
I'm off now to see if I can work my way comfortably into those jeans before next week!!

Atkins overtakes Dukan!
Well I've stuck to it for a month and I do not know how I've coped. The Dukan Diet is fairly practical to do I would think if you live on your own and don't work. If you live with others and have a family and work aswell you would be well pushed to stick to it unless you have only have a small amount to loose.
Let me explain by giving a few examples! I am mean't to be on this cruise phase for 193 days eating one day low fat protein and the next day low fat protein and veggies. No alcohol and after the way I've been feeling no energy! Sitting down for a Sunday lunch with the family Mum has chicken and no veggies, is this a good message to send to our children?........ At work! A vegetarian office, imagine the looks when digging in to a pile of meat ok I could have low fat cottage cheese and salad but NO dressing!
I have done Atkins before and I really enjoyed it. I think the main thing is that as long as you factor it into your carbohydrate daily count you can have most things after the initial 14 days. But even this supposedly austere phase seems like an amazing plethora of goodies. Cheese, whipping cream, olive oil, bacon and eggs and vegetables!!!! Yippee vegetables!!!!
I have been utilising some of the Dukan principles mainly the oat bran gallettes ... but with a twist! one egg, 2 tablespoons of whipping cream and 2 tablespoons of oatbran. As fas as I can work out these are virtually carb less on Akins and they taste 1000% better.
The other thing I couldn't get my head around is, how on earth do you get into a state of ketosis (burning body fat) when you are not taking any fat in. As far as Atkins is concerned this just doesn't happen unless you do eat good forms of fat. Anyway I now feel as though I'm not missing out on anything, I feel full and I have enough energy to exercise which is nice after a month of feeling utterly wiped! I also have no worries about having no alcohol as I know I can have a glass in 2 weeks and I also don't feel as if every pleasure has been wiped of the earth!!!!
I'm hopeful now that I will be able to progress so I'll keep you posted. I would like to note that I have lost a bit on the Dukan Diet but not as much as I would have expected. Need to go now Alistair the baby is trashing the house!!!

Motivation
Last week didn't go as well as I'd hoped! The lack of protein available where I was working and an inability to get to some and the long days really hampered me. I must admit that I did expect to loose more this week and I was quite down hearted and thought about doing another diet. Then I re read some of the book and blow me it said that when you add the vegetables back in to the diet quite often the weight will stay the same or even go up! I had anticipated doing the 1/1 rota but that just didn't work last week so I'm going to give the 5 days on the protein a go just to kick start it again. I do feel better now and resolve to continue.
Something will have to give and I need to be a bit more creative on the dishes. Something I'm going to try is lining a quiche tin with some lean corned beef, baking it blind and then filling it with chicken, lean ham and herbs and onions, then whipping up some eggs and plain yogurt and pouring it over. Hopefully it will come out looking like quiche.
The other thing that also might have made the difference is that I didn't eat alot last week and when I watched "the biggest loser" the other night one team hadn't been eating and didn't loose as much as the other teams. The specialists explained that it's the bodies defence mechanism and if we don't put enough fuel inside it will hold on to the fat reserves as it thinks it's going into a period of hardship!

The Table of Temptation!
Well it's all sitting there looking at me, a side table groaning under the weight of goodies! Thank God I'm strong willed!!
I've finished reading the book today and the final part is all about the importance of exercise. Dukan prescribes exercise as he would prescribe pills. He says that when he advised his patients to exercise they had a laisez faire attitude to it so he decided to prescribe it. Well today I've done 2 hours of roller derby practice and boy oh boy did I sweat. I did notice though that I did feel a bit light headed and I wonder if it was because I'm on a protein day today.
This week could be challenging as I am doing a full weeks temp work. Obviously when you are at home it's easier to cook etc. The company I'm going to working for supplies lunch but only vegetarian food. Lets see how I get on!
Thanks also to Shem and Chris for officially following my efforts!! It helps when the will power is weakened!

Second Christmas
Went out to eat at my lovely friend Annie's house yesterday evening. She had been very supportive and it was very easy to be good and not deviate from my diet. I did have a glass of cava but that was all! A much cheaper night than normal!!
Today is Christmas with my Inlaws, this is proving more difficult! Seeing as I am mean't to be on a pure protein day. Well I'm going to do 2 days on veg and I'll do two days on the pure protein. Not only that but our Christmas pressie was a huge hamper full of chocolate, chocolate, more chocolate, shortbread, biscuits, nuts, olives, twiglets and a bottle of bucks fizz! (The best present as it has a black sequinned cover on it)!
I'm under a great deal of pressure to just eat but I am very focused and I'm not going to. I have likened it to someone trying to give up smoking and then buying them shit loads of fags!!!
I feel quite good today as I have had two friends say how fab I'm looking,so thats good.! ;-)
